Squirts skate against Boise Steelheads in home tournament Sunday
Aside from a tough 4-6 loss to Ogden on Saturday in a fast and physical game, Friday and Saturday's featured 5:30pm Moose lead-in games were a big success. A turnout of 160-180 were in the stands or at the glass each game to take in and support the Bantams. Big Thank-You's go out to Moose announcer Jake Nichols for his great support and atmosphere, and to Center Management Inc. (CMI) for helping set up the Moose lead-in games.
Thank You to KJAX 93.3 and KZJH 95.3 for doing terrific in-studio live interview segments Friday morning with our own Andrew Brigham of JYH, about the tournament, feature games, and the Jackson Youth Hockey program. Also Thank You to the Jackson Hole News & Guide who announced the featured-games and tournament in last week's Sports section.
And Thank You to the Jackson Hole Moose organization for free admission to all JYH jerseys for Friday and Saturday's games. Many, many jerseys were at the Moose games (and many of their friends & parents were there also).
Thanks to all for supporting Jackson Youth Hockey!
For the tournament, the Bantam A Team took 2nd in their division, losing by only one point to Missoula who they beat earlier in the tournament. And the B Team took 1st in their division, in a championship game shootout! Michael Doyle scored in the shootout and Canyon Bupp had the game winner. The Bantam teams overall record for the tournament was 5-3-0, outscoring opponents 30-21. Stats and photos on the Bantam page.
On December 23, 2011, former JYH players took to the ice to share their love of hockey and memories of Coach Scott Smith.
Video of the game is below; in memory of Scott Smith, our beloved father, friend and coach, who for more than 20 years imparted his love and knowledge of the game of Hockey to so many in our community. All proceeds and donations from the alumni game will support scholarships through the Scott Smith Memorial Fund, dedicated to "Keeping the Kids on the Ice".
Coach Scott Smith surely has a smile on his face as hockey time returns to Jackson. We welcome over 90 Mites in to the program this fall. The Mites were a particular passion to Coach Smith and he guided the way for many of our older skaters.
Coach Scott's family graciously requested donations directed to JYH in Scott's honor. If you would like to donate to JYH, please send to POB 4733, Jackson, WY 83001, and indicate Scott Smith Memorial in the memo line. The Memorial account is set up at the Bank of Jackson Hole, Hillside Branch if you would like to make a donation through the bank.
Thank you
